Songs of the Passage at Kylemore Abbey – Sat 12th Sept

“Songs of the Passage” is a collaborative music recording project run by the University of Notre Dame, culminating in a concert of the featured music in the Kylemore Abbey Gothic Church on Saturday the 12th of September.

Focusing on traditional Irish music, this project explores music leading up to the famine, and then how it travelled across the Atlantic as a result of those hardships at home.

Featuring a broad range of music and musicians, and recorded in the idyllic surroundings of Renvyle and Tully in the local Teach Ceol, these songs and tunes will be interpreted in new and contemporary ways.

The recordings will feature Peadar King, Josh Johnston, Tom Portman, John Conneely, Deirdre Ni Chonghaile, Sailog Ni Cheanabhain, Mirella Murray, Joe Junker, Una Nic Laughlin, and Maidhc O’ Heanaigh, and a number of these will perform at the Saturday Concert.

The Gothic Church is a beautiful venue with wonderful acoustics in what promises to be a very special evening of music with a young highly talented bunch of performers.

Doors open at 7.30pm, admission €10.00. Proceeds from the door are generously being donated to the upcoming Conamara Sea Week Festival Oct 16 – 26.
