Conamara Bog Week 2013 – May 24th-Jun 3rd
Soccer
This year our Sports Programme extends to include an adult soccer competition. This is not a new event but a re-awakening of an event which was a major feature of early Conamara Bog Week Festivals. Now that we have the wonderful Astro Turf facility, thanks to Foscadh, it’s an opportune time to re-kindle an event that had hearts beating and pulses racing. The mighty Brendan Ridge will do the honours and will survive the dreaded midge and the odd bit of abuse to ensure the smooth running of a great competition.
7 a-side and 3 subs – €50 per team.
We are also hoping to run an adult ladies competition if there is enough demand.
Contact Brendan Ridge at 087 9865023.
As usual Brendan and the backroom team of helpers will run the Primary Schools Soccer Blitz in Letterfrack NS. Starts at 11am on Monday June 3rd.
Cycling
Cycling is now a major event in our Festival Calendar. These events are run in conjunction with that well known Mayo ClubWestern Lakes CC – one of the finest cycling clubs in the country.Western Lakes CC take part in the ‘Rás’.
Wednesday evening May 29th at 7pm in Tullycross the cyclists will sign in for a 50km event.
Because of crowding in the National Cycling calendar, the popular and highly challenging two day event is deferred to August 31st and September 1st. Two days of cycling featuring some of Ireland’s finest riders who will race through Connemara’s most beautiful and rugged landscapes.
For details see www.westernlakescc.com. Don’t forget we will also have our Family Cycling Event in June and a limited number of bikes will be available courtesy of James Kane.
Fun Run
Sponsored 5km event from Tullycross to Letterfrack starting at 2.30pm on Sunday May 26th.
Run, walk, skip, jump and enjoy! There is a lot of talk at the moment about Operation Transformation and this is a great chance to lose a few pounds and at the same time raise a few pounds for a great cause.
It’s a mighty course suitably challenging for those who want a good race and at the same time we promise a fun day for those who want a bit of craic.

Parish Walks
Conamara is probably the largest area of outstanding beauty in the whole of Ireland.
It is a complex area and in these walks we will be attempting to unravel the mysteries of this magical
landscape. In Irish landscape terms, the parish is an important unit.
In this year’s Conamara BogWeek we are zoning in on the Parish of Ballinakill and on Sunday June 2nd two
walks will take place led by Mags Flaherty – Ecologist and Sinead Keane – Ecologist/Herbalist.
These walks are Free. Unfortunately, no dogs allowed. Sensible walking boots and good rain gear essential.
